What is Blogging and how can it help my business?

Blogging started out as an online diary where people would post their thoughts online. Blogging has since evolved into so much more especially for business owners. Businesses now use blogs to develop relationships with customers who in turn will hopefully buy their product. Blogging is an easy and instant way for a business to provide content to customers.

Blogging is a useful way to share a taste of your expertise with potential clients and customers. If your blog can be a valuable resource, clients will not only keep coming back but your name will be the first they think of in your field.

And the more often you blog, the better the results.

What Blogging does for your business.

1. Creating Familiarity – Posting useful content about your business or area of interest shows people that you are interested in them by either providing knowledge on a specific topic or by entertaining them with a funny or interesting post. This creates familiarity with the business and customer. If the customer is familiar with your business they will start to trust you and be more willing to buy from you. You can look at Blogging as an icebreaker between a potential customer and your business.

2. Become An Expert – Use your blog to show people that you are an expert at what you do. Blog post that provide information prove that you know what your doing and that you can get the job done for them if they need you. Don’t be afraid to give away information people love free stuff. Most will buy from you because they don’t have the time to figure it out themselves and they want someone they know is an expert to do the job – not just someone who’s website says they are.

3. Develop Trust – Use your blog to develop the trust of customers. With new technology available one thing that has become extremely hard to gain is trust. The development of the internet separated interaction of people and it became hard to trust businesses with so many scams online. Business using their blog effectively brings back the interaction between people and provides a sense of security that this business is investing in them. Build trust and your customers will never think about any of your competitors.

What should I blog about?

You can blog about pretty much anything. You know your customers best and what they would like to see. If you are still unsure then ask them. Ask your customers what they would like to see on your blog. Below is a list of a few ideas to get you started.

  • Blog about your work – A Painter blogs about his paintings while a videographer blogs about his latest video.
  • Blog about Industry News – A clothing company blogs about new material that makes clothes easier to recycle
  • Blog about Your Business – A restaurant could blog about a recipe they use to make a dish.
  • Blog about Yourself – Talk about random funny or interesting things to entertain those that read your blog.
